Valentine’s Day is often a holiday of stress for men. Husbands are always trying to make sure they do something to keep their wives happy, or they will likely hear about it until the next February 14th comes around. If you look at the higher end Valentine’s gifts that are being plugged on television and in magazines, you should open your wallet and spend all you can to send her to a day at the spa, or even take her for a romantic getaway. These options just don’t fit all budgets.

Instead of taking her out for these experiences, why not create them at home. This will take a bit of work on your part, but she’s worth it, right? Plus you are about to make a lot of points as a wonderfully romantic man.

It’s time to give her a romantic candlelit bath. This works best if you have a garden tub, or other larger tub where she can lean back and really relax, but a regular tub can do in a pinch.

Things you will need:

Hand Made Spa Coupon

2-4 Scented Jar Candles

2-4 Scented Votive Candles

Rose Petals

Bubble Bath Liquid

Towel

If you really want to go all out, add any of these items to your list:

Bathrobe (the softer the better)

Her Favorite Kind of Candy

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Champagne or Her Favorite Cocktail

Massage Oils

In The Days Before

Before the special evening, create your own ’spa coupon’. It can be anything cute you come up with such as ‘ This Coupon good for one soaking bath at the Spa De James’ or something to that effect. Put it in a Valentine’s card to give her during dinner.

You need to purchase matching scented candles. If you know her favorite scent, go with that. If not, you should try for a relaxing scent, such as lavender, that will set the mood for a soaking bath. If you can, purchase a bubble bath with a matching scent, or no scent at all, so there is no odd mixture of aromas.

The Day Of

Without her knowledge, you should set up the candles in the bathroom around the tub and on the counter or sink area. While you need to take extra care that the votives are put in a safe space, You will have a little more flexibility in setting up the scented jar candles, as even if they are lightly bumped, they will not tip over or burn things.

You should also chill the champagne, chocolates and fruit or any other food items that need to be cold.

Her towel and/or bathrobe should be near the clothes drier. You are going to put these on the ‘warm fluff’ cycle while she is in the tub, so at the end of the bath she has a warm towel or robe to wrap up in.

The Event

You will want to start the evening with something nice, say a candlelit dinner at home that you’ve prepared (or had someone help if you’re not the best cook). You should use one of the jar candles for the table, as it will help you when it comes time for her bath.

At some point you need to give her the card, with the home spa coupon.

If you are going to do the whole bath event, with candies and champagne, you may want to skip dessert. During dinner, start the bath water, so it will be mostly filled when she arrives. You should pour bubble bath into the tub.

Once the meal is complete, excuse yourself, to set the candles in the bath. You should carry the scented jar candle from the table with you as well as a punk or long match that you can light from this candle and use to light the other candles as you walk in the room. The water should also be high enough that you can turn it off and sprinkle the rose petals on top.

The bathroom light should be off, and the whole scene set with the glow of the candles. You may want to add romantic music in the background.

Bring her in.

Allow her to soak in the bath. If you opted for the desserts and drinks, you should bring these in now, and serve her, while she relaxes.

Don’t rush her to get out of the tub. If she wants to enjoy time soaking, let her. Have her let you know when she’s ready to get out. You should get her towel or robe, which are now warmed, so she can dry off.

If you want to make an evening, and full spa experience, of it, this would be a great time to pull out the massage oil and give her a massage to relieve any remaining tension.

Just remember to blow out the candles as you leave the bathroom.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
